The Stanley Hotel
Sept 13, 2014
Widely known as the source material and pseudonym-ed "Overlook Hotel" for Stephen King's The Shining, The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. We unfortunately missed any ghostly behavior and instead partook of the hotel's literally overwhelming whiskey collection and few decent bottles of absinthe. Brave the snow and go in the off-season and the rates are actually really reasonable for such a beautiful landmark property, though it is nowhere near as isolated as in the novel, nor was it even used in the Stanley Kubrick film adaptation. I'd recommend bypassing the made-for-tv version produced by King though - it may bear much higher resemblance to the source material, but it is sorely not improved by that fact.
